So the question to you, was Russia just supposed to let a liar slaughter thousands of ethnic Russians? Especially when Zelensky escalated by amassing an army. I don't know, instead of building up a force, you know, not build it up? Go talk to people? Zelensky had all the power to stop the unrest. Unless you're going to say it was a Ukraine Russia war? Are we going to rewrite history to this degree? Russia was supporting one side, of course, but it was not a party to the conflict. Russia was not part of the agreement in the same way Ukraine was. The Ukrainian government is open to any solutions that would guarantee it's long term security. Joining NATO would do that, but so would other solutions. Securing guarantees of further military support in case of future Russian invasions is. And Ukraine has made clear that joining NATO is not it's priority. Truth is Ukraine didn't implement the agreements because it would take them one step away from joining NATO. Instead it was responded with further escalation from Russia. Zelensky ran on the promise to stop the conflict in Donbas.Īnother thing that would require cooperation from Russia. Was Ukraine supposed with completely withdraw it's defensive forces from eastern Ukraine while Russia continued to refuse to promise to do the same? Of course you think so, don't you.
